Alabama Representative George Bandy served Alabama District 83, which includes Russell And Lee Counties from 1994-2018. As a result of an automobile accident in early January, Rep. Bandy lost his life after hospitalization for 11 days; due to internal injuries. Bandy's professional experience included serving as a pastor at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, serving on the Lee County Commission and serving as president pro tempore of the Opelika City Council. He was also chairman of the 
Alabama Democratic Conference.

If a candidate does not receive more than 50% of the vote in an Alabama Primary, a Run Off Election is held. 

ALABAMA PRIMARY ELECTION LAW
Section 17-13-7.1
Persons entitled to vote in primary runoff elections
(a) If an elector votes in a primary election, he or she may vote in a subsequent primary runoff election only if he or she voted in the primary election of the same political party for which the runoff election is being held.
(b) The Secretary of State shall promulgate rules to implement this section.
